History of Clubpenguin

Club Penguin is an online game developed by New Horizon Interactive. Using cartoon penguins as avatars, players waddle around, chat, play minigames, and participate in other activities with one another in a snow-covered virtual world. After beta-testing, Club Penguin was made available to the general public on October 24, 2005 and has since expanded into a large online community — growing to the extent that by late 2007, it was claimed that Club Penguin had over 12 million user accounts. While free memberships are available, revenue is predominaty raised through paid memberships which allow players to access a range of additional features, (such as the ability to purchase virtual clothing, furniture and “pets” for their penguins through the use of in-game currency). The success of Club Penguin led to New Horizon being purchased by The Walt Disney Company in August 2007 for the sum of $350 million, with an additional $350 million in bonuses should specific targets be met by 2009.
The game is designed for children between the ages of 6 and 14 years old. Thus a major focus of the developers has been on child safety, with a number of features introduced to the game to facilitate this – including offering a “Safe Chat” mode, whereby users select their comments from a menu; filtering that prevents swearing and the revelation of personal information; and paid moderators (along with unpaid veteran players) who police the game. Nevertheless, the game has its critics, some of whom have claimed that it teaches consumerism and that it can encourage cheating.
Penguin Chat 3
Long before Clubpenguin, there was a game called Penguin Chat 3. You would be able to enter that game at Rocketsnail.com but now its closed. After they closed it, they made the game we love and play, Clubpenguin.com. In Penguin Chat 3, there was ninjas! You could be able to play as ninjas if you found out how. You would click the ”n” when your choosing your penguin color in the ”Select your new penguin”.
And if you were a moderator in Penguin chat 3, you were a SNAIL!

Now on to Betas of Clubpenguin
Ah, betas, Club Penguins oldest and rarest penguins. In this Beta FAQ Page I’m going to post all about betas, the beta party, where to find betas, and more.
When Clubpenguin FIRST came out, they had 1 server. And in that server were party hats. Betas tested to see if there were bugs and errors like in CPIP. The beta hat party lasted only 2 hours. So you could only get them in limited time. That beta hat was VERY RARE! If you tested out Clubpenguin, you would have got a free 1 month of Membership. The testing lasted about 3 months and in the middle of the testing, Billybob and the team decided to have a party for the effort the penguins gave! Since there was only 1 server, it was VERY easy to spot out Moderators. Here are some VERY old pictures of that:
Heres the invitation that you would get before the hats arrived:

Betas love one item that they own, if they got it, the beta hat.
I’ve Never Seen A Beta, Where Can I Find Them?
Betas are very picky sometimes, they either love crowds or hate them. Alot love showing off there hats in populated servers. Here are where you can find betas that I find often. 2 servers, Mammoth and Frozen. Betas are like a paperclip and these servers are the magnets. If you really want to see betas check at the dock, town, plaza, or iceberg on Frozen and Iceberg and you will probly see a beta. Also check Brumby and Blizzard.
How Do You Know If Someone Beta Tested?
Well, there are two ways to tell if a penguin beta tested.
- Their Name
- Their Clothes
- Whats A Beta Tester?Beta Tester – Someone who joined Club Penguin before it officially opened that helped find bugs and glitches in the test version of the game. What Did Club Penguin Look Like In Beta Days?Nobody really has many pictures of what it did look like but I have one.
^——Club Penguin Map In Beta Days——^What’s The Beta Test Party? The Beta Test Party was on September 21, 2005. The party was only 2 hours long, 3-5 PM Penguin Standard Time.

Beta testing was VERY fun at the time, and there were only 4 mods in Beta Times.
